What to Expect?
On booking your first treatment you will be asked to fill out a medical history form. This will be emailed to you and is easy to fill out and return. It is advised you avoid having other manipulations to your body for 4 days prior. This may include physiotherapy, acupuncture, chiro and massage.
When you arrive at my purpose-built treatment rooms, we will firstly take some time to discuss the reasons you are seeking a Bowen treatment. This may be a specific area of concern or a desire for a general improvement in well-being.
Using your medical history, and an analysis of your posture and range of movement, I will start to formulate a tailored treatment plan. This will continue to evolve according to your body’s reactions to the treatments. For the best results, a minimum of 2-3 treatments is required before we assess how best to proceed.
The treatment is performed with you lying down on a comfortable treatment table. For optimum results to be achieved I perform moves directly onto your skin or light cotton clothing. This may involve you remaining in your undergarments and being fully covered by linen.
The treatment can last anywhere between 30-60 minutes.
Following treatment, it is advised that for the best results you adhere to the following:
- Stay hydrated
- Keep moving
- Avoid being extremely hot or cold
- Avoid other body works or therapies; for example, massages for up to 5 days after.
Full advice on how best to compliment your procedure will be discussed at the end of the treatment.
A typical treatment session would involve the following: Balancing the entire body, addressing the lower back first, then the upper back and then the neck.
It is also my aim to treat any of your areas of concern.
To minimise the need for disturbing the client’s rest, all procedures that require the client to lie face down are completed before having them turn over for the procedures that are done face up. Some procedures may be done with client sitting or standing.
A Bowen session involves one or more procedures, each of which consists of several sets of moves. Between each set of moves, the practitioner pauses for as many minutes as are needed for the client’s body to begin responding. This allows the body to heal itself with minimal intervention.
